At club room
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month except January, when the club is closed for summer holidays. Members meet informally, with prior arrangement, on the 2nd, 4th and 5th (where relevant) Tuesdays for discussing projects, addressing queries, learning new techniques, use of tools, jigs and many other skills.
At 6:30 p.m.
Plan for the day:
6:00 p.m – Club opens. Enjoy a cup of coffee/tea
6:30 p.m – Start of day’s programme (see Calendar)
8:00 p.m – Short snack/coffee break
9:00 p.m – Close
Club night fee: $5/- for members. Exempt for student members.
Visitors are welcome.
The evening is usually devoted to demonstrations by a club member or an invited demonstrator, sharing information and tricks-of-the-trade about techniques, materials, tools and supplies. Club night is about learning from peers, trouble-shooting and enjoying being surrounded by like-minded people with a passion for making wood chips and finely crafted wares.
Members are encouraged to bring along their successful and not so successful projects for display on “the table”. An open explanation of the maker’s methods, wood used and problems encountered, is our way of sharing knowledge. Generally, the 1st Tuesday evening is competition evening, based on demonstration held on the previous 1st Tuesday club night. Members are grouped under A, B or C categories based on their experience. Project pieces are judged and the first two positions in each group win a prize. A winner in one competition will have to sit out the next competition in order to encourage other members. We all aim for perfection and this is a good opportunity to learn if there is scope for improvement with the artefacts on display.
