Granville’s paua in resin bowl demonstration
Granville turning the back off a block of swamp Kauri in preparation to do a resin inlay.

At our demonstration in May this year Granville did a demo for us before returning to U.K. as he does each winter. It was an easy to follow and well explained demo and clearly there were many of the good numbers present who were taking notes.

Mixing a “brew” of 4 to 1 resin ready to pour.

Clearly it would not be possible to do the whole process in one night due to time allowed for sanding sealer and paint to dry, but Granville came with work pre prepared for the job. The pictures herewith tell the story.

Following that he also demonstrated how to turn a rolled edge bowl from a piece of gummy kauri, and this skill subject will be the project for members to bring along to Club on June 7th to compete for points towards the Wynn Fraser Awards.

Placing paua pieces in the trench of the finished bowl. Note the adjustable rubber tipped stand he has developed to hold an already levelled bowl.
